Sunday Sermon Summary: "There Are Some Non-Negotiables in My Life"

Praise Tabernacle International, Plantation, FL.

Pastor D. H. Dawkins, Sr.

Today’s Sunday service topic spoke about how as Christians, who are in their faithful walk, have been Saved, and Filled, by the Holy Ghost, should have elements in their lives that are non-negotiable.

The key verses were from Jeremiah 6:13-16 (KJV).

It reads:

13 For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.

16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

As Pastor Dawkins describes, in the above text, “They were falsely declaring and covering up their sins with religious activities. Jeremiah wanted them to know the truth. This was a nation that had lost their way and GOD is speaking to them to redirect them to the right way.” However as you can see in verse 16, they chose to decline and walk in there own way.

The Bible points out TWICE:

Proverbs 14:12 (KJV)

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Proverbs 16:25 (KJV)

25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

When GOD has to repeat Himself, He is making Himself very clear.

Man walking in mans’ way will lead to DEATH. Point. Blank. Period.

Pastor connected the previous sermon summaries regarding Elijah and Elisha. Elijah represented the older generation, and Elisha represented the younger generation. He expressed how the older generations create “landmarks” of which the younger generations use to steer them into the right direction. Without these landmarks the younger generations will always be lost, and left wandering around. As each (Elisha) generation loses a landmark it leaves them vulnerable to the consequences of the errors, which the previous (Elijah) generations created.

What are the landmarks you speak of? Pastor Dawkins asked, “Do you see the cross; the bloodshed of Jesus? Do you see Jesus still as the way, truth and life? Do you see a life of repentance? Are people getting healed; lives being transformed?"

These are landmarks and they are NON-NEGOTIABLE:

  • Praying and fasting

  • Sacrifice and self-denial

  • Importance of salvation

  • Christians are called to be one

  • Holy- love, living purity, Godliness

  • Believing in the Lordship of GOD

  • Forgiveness

  • Souls being Saved

  • JESUS is the WAY, TRUTH, and LIFE! No one can get to the Father, unless they go through Him! (John 14:6)

There could more added to the list, but the point here is that landmarks are needed and are NON-NEGOTIABLE!

Life Application

As a Christian you must remain anchored in GOD and in Thee Word. “You can’t do all that you want and be holy. There will be a price to pay” (Pastor Dawkins). Like I mentioned in my “Ask Selah: 1st One” post, there is no neutrality in being a Christian. You are black or white, no gray area. As true believers of Christ, it is our responsibility to install non-negotiable landmarks for the next generation to have. We do this by our obedience, behavior and compassion. We can no longer say “I’m just gonna pray about,” as Pastor expressed. We have to do more! I love how Pastor depicted that the next generation will result from us. He went on to express how these are our future teachers, policemen, and leaders! THE TRUTH IN THIS! We have to pour into them now before it is too late. Every generation will be the effect of the lack of the previous one.

If the Elisha generation lacks the landmarks of the Elijah generation, then what will Christianity become?
